Egg Hunt Domination

by admin on April 5, 2010

About three weeks out from Easter weekend, we start egg hunt training.  We go over strategy, form, technique, and speed.  We run drills, do numberless squats, and do arm reaching exercises.  We take a trip to Target to try out different Easter baskets, and we choose the one that ‘feels’ the best.  We take this seriously, people.  We don’t egg hunt train to come in second or third, ya know what I mean?  I expect great things from my children, and egg hunt performance is not excluded from my expectations.

The morning before Easter came very quickly.  Sage was ready.  She woke up early and started running her drills before we even started.  We packed the kids in the car and headed down to Dolphin Beach where the festivities were to take place.  Holy huge crowds!!  They sectioned the beach off into about 8 different, age group areas.  The announcer came on, the music stopped, and the hunt began.  Sage frolicked with huge-smiled excitement!  She literally speed skipped between each egg.  Luckily, no kids threw elbows or tripped others.  Good sportsmanship all around.  Sage didn’t find the golden egg, but she packed her basket.  Well done, Miss Thing!  She was happy with her performance, and frankly, so was I.

Phoenix was…well…he lacked the zeal that Sage exhibited.  He just didn’t get it.  I don’t know what his problem was.  Frankly, his showing was pretty darn weak.  He found it confusing.  He wouldn’t walk, choosing crawling as his method of transportation between egg picking.  He didn’t like the feel of the sand on his fat Shrek hands.  He did have a great reach move, so it wasn’t ALL bad.  I’m not certain, but I think he walked away with ONE single egg.  Disappointing.  I guess I should cut him some slack since he is not even 13 months old yet.  Nor is he 100% committed to walking yet.  Okay, perhaps he had obstacle upon obstacle to overcome.  Perhaps he wasn’t ready yet.  Perhaps he just needed more time.  Sorry, Phoenix.  Life doesn’t wait until you’re ready.  It doesn’t ask before it slams you with adversity.

(This is a joke. I don’t REALLY egg hunt train my kids…….THAT seriously.)
